The September heavy truck market saw no "golden September", with an obvious "cold at home, hot abroad" pattern, and the number of new products in the October batch continued its downward trend.
According to CAAM statistics, the heavy truck market sold 98,686 units in September 2026, up 14.71% month on month but down 6.53% year on year. The expected "golden September" did not arrive; instead the overall trend matched August, with the domestic market continuing under pressure and showing no clear improvement, while export sales grew by more than half year on year — the "cold at home, hot abroad" pattern becoming ever more obvious, while the digestion of domestic incremental volume from the first half is still under way. Specifically: semi-trailer tractors sold 51,559 units in September, down 8.38% year on year, and heavy trucks 47,127 units, down 4.43% (including 25,261 complete vehicles and 21,866 incomplete vehicles); both basic categories showed a "third consecutive decline" in the third quarter. Cumulatively, the heavy truck market sold 929,400 units in January-September, up 12.96% year on year, with its annual lead shrinking again; this third-quarter "dive" has made the overall market feel a chill. Of that, tractors and heavy trucks sold 483,900 and 445,600 units cumulatively, up 15.26% and 10.56% respectively, with both growth rates somewhat contained.

In the tractor segment, the TOP10 participants were stable: Sinotruk 14,460 units, maintaining 0.55% growth and still rising against a falling market, with cumulative sales of 136,380 units up 21.62%, defending its industry leadership; FAW 11,215 units, the only other maker above 10,000 monthly, though down 13.95% year on year, with cumulative sales of 101,405 units making it the industry's second maker above 100,000, but cumulative growth of 11.29% and a shrinking share; Shaanxi Auto 7,590 units and Foton 5,090 units both down more than 20% year on year monthly, with cumulative sales of 69,453 and 57,756 units respectively, one down and one up; XCMG continued in fifth place with 4,303 units and roughly 75% year-on-year growth, its cumulative 31,821 units still nearly doubling — the above TOP5 totalled 42,658 units, an 82.74% share. Dongfeng 3,863 units, down more than 30% year on year, its cumulative 49,103 units showing a 2.76% slight decline for the first time this year — enough to sound a warning; Shandong Leichi 1,410 units, up nearly 90% year on year, with cumulative 8,055 units, riding the new-energy surge; below 1,000 units were JAC 807, Geely Hualing 785 and BAIC Heavy 633, with only the first growing quickly and the latter two declining to varying degrees — the above TOP10 totalled 50,156 units, a 97.28% share. Other major players: GAC Lingcheng 437 units, monthly growth close to doubling, with cumulative 2,622 units already taking shape; Yutong Commercial 280, Beiben 244 and SAIC Hongyan 221, all three also passing 1,000 units cumulatively.

In the heavy truck segment: Sinotruk 13,888 units (219 incomplete), cumulative sales of 140,700 units, up 24.54% cumulatively, making it the direct reason for leading the heavy industry; second to fourth all sold around 7,000 units monthly, including Shaanxi Auto 7,505 (6,812 incomplete), FAW 7,330 (7,329 incomplete), Dongfeng Group 7,251 (4,897 incomplete) and Foton 7,061 (2,255 incomplete), though cumulative sales varied: Dongfeng Group's cumulative 80,992 ranked second but fell 5.69%, Shaanxi Auto and Foton cumulated 68,224 and 67,349 units, up 7.43% and 30.44% respectively, while FAW's cumulative 56,807 fell 6.99% — the above TOP5 totalled 43,035 units, a 91.32% share. In the second tier, XCMG 897 units and cumulative 9,479 units, though its cumulative decline widened to 5.86%; Chery 790 units and cumulative 8,237 units maintaining over 60% growth and making significant progress this year; SAIC Hongyan 394, Geely Hualing 382 and JAC 375 units similar in monthly volume, with Hongyan's "return" particularly notable, while JAC's cumulative decline of nearly half suggests its heavy truck business is at a turning point and needs a clear decision — the above TOP10 totalled 45,873 units, a 97.34% share. Other major players: Zoomlion Huqiao 290 units (all incomplete) and BAIC Heavy 258 both growing quickly, Beiben 267 units and cumulative 2,644 with a 1.97% slight decline, and Hubei Sanhuan 105 units with cumulative 1,554, a cumulative increase of over 1.5 times.

On the afternoon of 16 October, MIIT released the October batch, Batch 412, of new product announcements: 687 automobile new products in total, up 13.2% month on month but still at a low level; together with recent policy releases on new product development, this batch showed no obvious breakthrough in relevant new product numbers. Identified: 32 tractor models (complete-vehicle basis) and 16 heavy truck models (chassis basis), equivalent to 48 heavy truck new products in total, up 45.5% month on month but down 44.8% year on year, and at a historic low for three consecutive months. As a result, the six-month average for this batch fell sharply to 81.0 models, opening the fourth quarter of the year at a low ebb. Still, if OEMs and component suppliers can find solutions again, that would be good for the industry's overall upgrading. This batch contained only one "repeated model" — the Sinotruk Jinan HOWO TS7 series ZZ4257Y404KZ1BEV6G battery-electric semi-trailer tractor first filed in the previous batch. Three complete-vehicle makers involved in N-category truck business made related changes this batch, and 14 new special-purpose vehicle manufacturers are proposed, such as CRRC Lanzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. (a wholly-owned CRRC subsidiary), Foton Losa (Tangshan) New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (a member of Tangshan State-owned Holding Group and a Losa shareholder), Kaivo Automobile (Huainan) Co., Ltd. (a member of Kaivo New Energy Group), and Yunnan Suijing New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (whose parent once participated in the restructuring of Guangzhou Suijing Bus and obtained full control).
SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd. (complete vehicle No. 67) added a range-extended electric truck product category; given the product line-up, this should prioritise REEV development for the 3-4 tonne light truck that is a mainstay of urban distribution — increasingly the preferred route for leading makers responding to urban vehicle electrification.
Sany Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (complete vehicle No. 80) and Sinotruk Group Chengdu Wangpai Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. (complete vehicle No. 101) made legal-representative changes.
Jiefang's new J7 and Sinotruk's Huanghe H7 enter BEV; Scania NextEra hazardous-goods version and first chassis industry conversion

FAW Group filed the Jiefang new J7 series CA4250P74T1BEV battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, using the upgraded new styling as the main view; from the sheet-metal structure it is a reuse of the original Jiefang J7 series resources, mainly upgrading the front fascia and parts of the side panels (covered in the April batch, Batch 406 article). The new product seats 2, has a 3.8 m wheelbase, front 2/3 leaf springs with rear air suspension, 11.6 t kerb weight and 37.27 t towing capacity, and carries CATL LP278D01 LFP traction batteries in a between-axle twin-side underfloor layout, with FAW Group's CAM255PT56 340 kW×2 e-drive system (first application), plus optional electronic mirrors and full side skirts. The battery model indicates a new pack scheme supplied by the Era series; judging by kerb weight it may exceed 500 kWh, pending further disclosure. Previously the Jiefang J7 platform had not entered NEV at scale, with only one FCV option in the Chuangling/J7H (July batch this year); this entry into BEV with an all-new image marks the high-end Jiefang platform's "openness" to new energy.
Sinotruk Jinan filed two battery-electric new products in the Huanghe H7 series, also the platform's first entry into BEV. One is the 4×2 ZZ4187Y461XZ1BSEV5F battery-swapping battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, 2,510 mm wide, seating 2, 4,550 mm wheelbase, front 2/3 leaf springs with rear air suspension, 10 t kerb weight and 31.87 t towing capacity, carrying CATL LFP batteries in a between-axle twin-side underfloor layout (judged to be the currently popular 512.59 kWh pack), with Sinotruk Group's TZ220XY-ZQV02 235 kW×2 e-drive system. The other is the 6×4 ZZ4257Y414XZ1BEV6G battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, 4,075 mm wheelbase, front 2 leaf springs with rear air suspension, 11.55 t kerb weight and 37.32 t towing capacity, carrying Weichai FinDreams cells with Weichai New Energy LFP pack (by comparison judged to be a 600.65 kWh pack), with Sinotruk Group's TZ220XY-ZQV02 235 kW×3 e-drive system. With this, the Sinotruk Huanghe platform also declares "full access" to new energy, as the industry's high-end flagship models accelerate NEV electrification.

Scania filed its first hazardous-goods tractor, the Super NextEra series SAS4261GGF001 dangerous-goods transport semi-trailer tractor, GVW 26 t, 2,535 mm wide, seating 2, 3,350 mm wheelbase, front 2 leaf springs with rear air suspension, kerb weight 8.2/8.5/8.65 t depending on configuration, 40 t towing capacity, powered by Scania China's TD13 series 12.74 L, 460/500 hp diesel, with fuel consumption of 33.6 L/100 km. At its recent official launch the hazardous-goods tractor was priced at 598,000 yuan, marking domestically built Scania's formal entry into the basic first-tier segment.
Lianyungang Ruipu converted a Scania R series SAS1180GAN011 Class II chassis into the LRP5123XLJ motorhome, 5,995 mm long, built to small blue-plate heavy-truck motorhome specifications, GVW 12.3 t, seating 4/6, with a door in the mid-right of the box body and the cab pass-through retained; inside, to the left of the door are facing bench seats with an overhead lifting bed, to the right a galley area, behind the door on the left a longitudinal sleeping area, and on the right a storage area plus a separate toilet. This is also the first time Scania China has supplied a chassis for industry conversion, following its own 6×2R SAS5260LCLGCN001 curtain-side complete vehicle, opening a broader field; its existing chassis range can serve general conversions such as motorhomes as well as special conversions for firefighting and concrete pumps, and with a sensible industrial layout it may find new growth points in China.
Dongfeng Longqing 16 L diesel/gas engines, Sinotruk Sitrak double-row 6×6 off-road version, and Foton Daimler Galaxy 5M updated to HEV
By tonnage: this batch focused entirely on conventional specifications — specifically, 28 tractor models at 25/26 t, a 58.3% share, covering all fuel types in the batch, while four 18 t models continued to align with conventional heavy truck specifications. Heavy trucks included six 31 t models and five each at 18 t and 25 t, all maintaining a subdued trend.

By fuel: NEV new products continued their "climbing" trend, reaching 90.6% and 81.3% in tractors and heavy trucks respectively, with two specifications achieving full BEV coverage — 4×2 tractors and 8×4 heavy trucks — and overwhelming dominance in other specifications; FCV and HEV were both concentrated in 25 t 4×2 tractors, with three and one models respectively. The hydrogen industry has recently received guidance for regulated development; this batch includes the Geely Hualing Farizon Xingshan G series HN4250X53D2FCEVY with a Tianjin Rongcheng Qingyang 240 kW fuel cell, and the Yutong commercial vehicle Shangding version ZKH4252P4FCEV6 with a Chongqing Weishi fuel cell. The HEV new product is the Foton Daimler Auman Galaxy 5M series BJ4251PHEVHDMT01-M plug-in hybrid semi-trailer tractor, matched to a Foton Cummins 9.92 L, 480 hp diesel, carrying CATL LFP plus Foton Daimler 220/270 kW e-drive, with fuel consumption of 31.0 L/100 km. ICE new products include five diesel and one LNG; the latter is the Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Tianlong KX series DFH4250G18 semi-trailer tractor, matched to "Longqing" 16 L-class 16.2 L, 770/750/720 hp gas engines (larger displacement). In September this year natural gas commercial vehicle sales were 9,000 units, down 66.8% year on year, and January-September cumulative sales were 164,000 units, down 9.2% — the "inflection point" of the natural gas market has finally arrived.
This batch contained five diesel new products; apart from the Scania hazardous-goods tractor above, the other four correspond to the four basic categories starting with 1/2/3/4, and in an era when diesel new products are relatively rare, they deserve separate mention.

Tractor diesel power Max=760/720 hp: Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle's 15.6 L DDi16E760/720-60 diesel engines, adopted by the Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Tianlong KX series DFH4250G17 semi-trailer tractor — upgraded new styling, seating 2, 3,450 mm wheelbase, seven optional leaf-spring suspensions or front 2/3 leaf springs with rear air suspension, kerb weight 9.45-10.39 t, towing capacity 38.48-39.42 t, top speed 110 or limited to 89 km/h, fuel consumption 33.5 L/100 km. Together with the LNG models in this batch, this is the first fitment of "Longqing" 16 L-class large-displacement engines in Dongfeng-affiliated companies; in long-distance high-end transport, diesel still has considerable demand space, so industry leaders continue to strengthen large-displacement diesel model line-ups.
Off-road power=540 hp: Sinotruk Group's 12.42 L MC13.54-61 diesel, adopted by the Sinotruk Jishang Sitrak G5S series ZZ2256V545MF5X off-road vehicle chassis — double-row cab seating 2+4/3+4, GVW 25 t, kerb weight 11.5 t, 6×6 chassis architecture, 5.4 m wheelbase, front 3 and rear 5 leaf springs, rear single-tyre structure with 14.00-inch tyres, top speed 110 or limited to 89 km/h. EVE's LMFP fitted to three OEMs, Jiangsu Lingyi enters batteries, Shaanxi Auto Delong X5000 becomes a new 800 kWh player
The following is a full-calibre brand count of BEV energy storage systems and BEV/FCV drive systems.
The BEV heavy truck new products in this batch, after conversion, total 48 energy storage systems, mostly LFP chemistry, plus three upgraded LMFP lithium manganese iron phosphate schemes, all supplied by Hubei EVE. Of these: (1) tractors total 29, the Era series 17, about 60%, returning to industry dominance, with the recently accelerated "400/600+" and the latest electric-to-electric range-extender schemes regaining the spotlight; Hubei EVE and Sany Lithium tie at four each, the latter's cells supplied by Hefei Gotion, Lanjun New Energy and Sany Hongxiang; Weichai New Energy two, Hefei Gotion and Jiangsu Lingyi one each, the former's cells all from Weichai FinDreams, the latter entering pack assembly as a new player with cells from Yichang Chuang. (2) Heavy trucks total 19, the Era series leading far ahead with 16, over 80%, the most stable ballast; the rest are Hubei EVE, Weichai New Energy (Taizhou FinDreams) and Zoomlion New Energy (Hubei EVE) one each.
The BEV+FCV heavy truck related new products in this batch, after conversion, total 43 e-drive systems, with in-house versus outsourced supply at just over 6:1, the former's dominance still firm. Specifically: in-house supply covers 13 OEMs and 37 systems this batch, Sinotruk 7, BAIC 6, Sany/FAW 5 each and Shaanxi Auto close behind, with Beiben Beijing and Zoomlion New Energy beginning to enter. Outsourced supply covers only three companies' six schemes, including Suzhou Lvkong four and Bosch Wuxi/Zhejiang Pangu one each.

In the July 2024 batch, Batch 385, Jiangxi Geely teamed up with Gotion High-tech to file the Farizon Xingzhi light truck JGL1041BEVGRJ6, the commercial vehicle industry's first with LMFP traction batteries; the October batch then extended it to Zhejiang Haoqing's Farizon SV light van, opening a "two-in-one" path. This batch Hubei EVE teamed up with three OEMs to file three LMFP-equipped tractor new products, marking LMFP's entry into the heavy commercial vehicle industry.
The LMFP lithium manganese iron phosphate system dopes manganese into the LFP lithium iron phosphate lattice, using a higher voltage platform to gain higher energy density while retaining LFP's cost advantage and safety, and can thus be seen as an improved or upgraded version of the latter. LMFP effectively fills the gap between mid-to-low-end NCM (mid-nickel) ternary lithium and high-end LFP, has some appeal for models pursuing value for money, and may also affect sodium-ion SIB expansion in the mid-to-low-end market.

FAW Group filed the Jiefang Yingchi series CA4257P25T1BEVA80 battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, 2.5 m wide, seating 2/3, with an optional classic Jiefang JH6 styling scheme, 3.8 m wheelbase, 11 optional leaf-spring suspensions, kerb weight 10.1/11.05 t, towing capacity 37,755-38,770 kg across four specifications, carrying Hubei EVE LMFP batteries in a cab-back layout, with FAW Group's CAM400PT56 600 kW or CAM400PT58 450 kW e-drive.
Foton Daimler filed the Auman Xingyi Edition BJ4259BEVHCMT04-M battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, basic width 2.45 m, seating 2/3, 3.8 m wheelbase, 15 optional leaf-spring suspensions, 10.2 t kerb weight, towing capacity 38.67/38.6 t, carrying Hubei EVE LMFP batteries in a cab-back layout, with Foton Daimler's AUMM0550A1 550 kW e-drive.

Beiben filed the V5M series ND4250BBXJMZ03BEV battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, using a crystal flying-wing headlamp generic cab, seating 2, wheelbase 3.5/3.8 m, four optional leaf-spring suspensions, kerb weight 9.5/10/10.4 t, towing capacity 39.37/38.87/38.47 t, carrying Hubei EVE H4-LF668-448kWh LFP/H4-LM285-538kW LMFP batteries in a cab-back layout, with Beiben Beijing's TZ460XS_BY380EV 600 kW e-drive — also the highest-power scheme visible in its in-house e-drive range.
Hubei Shenhe and Lingyi Automobile's jointly developed Jingzhe series filed the ESH4250LYBEVK8 battery-electric semi-trailer tractor this batch, seating 2, 3,625 mm wheelbase, optional front air and rear six leaf-spring suspensions, 9,950 kg kerb weight, 38.92 t towing capacity, carrying Yichang Chuang cells with Jiangsu Lingyi LFP packs in a between-axle twin-side underfloor layout, with Shanghai Lingdong Zhika's TZ306XY115AM 415 kW×2 e-drive. Jiangsu Lingyi Automobile Technology Co., Ltd., the main entity of Lingyi Automobile, was founded in June 2022 in Pingqian (Taicang) Modern Industrial Park, Shaxi Town, Taicang; beyond the Jingzhe and Xiaoman basic models it actively engages in the new-energy three-electric industry, such as the e-drive business Shanghai Lingdong Zhika and the parent of the battery business in this batch — showing that new players are entering the new-energy industry across the board, integrating resources and pursuing "all-in-house development" to keep performance, cost and quality under control.

Shaanxi Heavy Truck this batch, together with the Era series, filed the "ultra-large capacity" Delong X5000 series SX4257XF4C2BEV battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, seating 2, 3,775 mm wheelbase, five optional leaf-spring suspensions, kerb weight 14.75/15.2/16.2 t, towing capacity 34.12/33.67/32.67 t, carrying CATL 801.23 kWh LFP batteries in a cab-back plus between-axle twin-side underfloor combined layout, with Shaanxi Auto Group's QT65TZ445SQ1661 660 kW e-drive, range 600 km. The Era series' 801.23 kWh pack scheme is also one of the industry's preferred "ultra-large capacity" options, already used by more than ten models from XCMG, Foton Daimler and Sinotruk Jinan/Jishang, with Shaanxi Heavy Truck the latest entrant.
Nanjing Golden Dragon filed the NJL4250ZEKEV battery-electric semi-trailer tractor, using the currently popular industry generic cab, with a minimum height of 2,760 mm and basic width of 2,450 mm allowing mother-daughter vehicle combinations, wheelbase 3.75/3.6 m, nine optional leaf-spring suspensions, kerb weight 8.9-9.77 t, towing capacity 39.1-39.97 t, carrying CATL 410.15 kWh LFP batteries in a between-axle twin-side underfloor layout, with Nanjing Golden Dragon's 520 kW e-drive, range 260 km. This is another application of the Era series' "400+" pack scheme, which will presumably spread quickly across the industry.
Batch commentary: the expected "golden September" did not arrive for the commercial vehicle market in September, and "cold at home, hot abroad" has kept the domestic market under pressure, with both basic categories declaring year-on-year declines; the market's current dive has pushed the industry into a downturn. Although the number of new products announced in the October batch rose slightly month on month, from a historical perspective it has been at a historic low for three consecutive months, as OEMs and component suppliers continue working to adapt to new standards and regulations. With electrification advancing across the board and NEV penetration setting records, this batch brought many new products: FAW Jiefang's new J7 went electric for the first time, and the Yingtuo/Yingchi series successively completed BEV tractor filings; SAIC Hongyan restarted the Jiebao product line and kept enriching engineering vehicle schemes; the Era series' "400/600+" packs and electric-to-electric range-extender schemes launched, successfully consolidating industry leadership, with BAIC Heavy and Nanjing Golden Dragon becoming partners; Sinotruk Jinan's Huanghe H7 battery-electric version, and Shaanxi Heavy Truck's Delong X5000 series 800 kWh "ultra-large capacity" entry. Hubei EVE launched LMFP lithium manganese iron phosphate "upgraded" traction batteries, with the first three partner OEMs appearing.
New players entering new tracks: Jiangsu Lingyi engages in battery pack assembly, Hubei Sanhuan Haolong extends to Zhiyu Weike Yintan Z5 plus Jingwei Hengrun Descartes, and Beijing Weigang joins hands with Pengfei Dongte. ICE power, though relatively limited, also produced targeted new products, such as the Scania NextEra hazardous-goods version launching and completing the first China-made chassis industry conversion; Sinotruk Sitrak double-row 6×6 off-road models, and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle's "Longqing" 16 L large-displacement diesel/gas engines. Although both the market and R&D sides are caught in a chill, the industry continues to explore its own ways forward — the best preparation for the coming spring.
