Seizing the Industry Window: Strategic Layout Prior to National Standard Implementation

China’s driverless logistics vehicle sector is standing at a critical stage for large-scale commercial application. Industry statistics show that domestic deliveries of autonomous logistics vehicles reached approximately 30,000 units in 2025, a year-on-year surge of over 350%, with the total fleet exceeding 35,000 units operating in more than 300 cities nationwide.

Meanwhile, the logistics industry is plagued by rising costs, labor shortages and low operational efficiency. Autonomous driving, electrification and intelligent technologies are widely recognized as effective solutions to these challenges.

The national standard for Level 4 autonomous driving, GA/T 2388-2026, will take effect on July 1. By unveiling the OpenVAN brand 25 days ahead of the official implementation, Dongfeng completes a crucial strategic positioning in the industry.

Dongfeng OpenVAN: Full-scenario Product Lineup Unveiled for the First Time

According to Dongfeng officials, the brand name carries two implications. OPEN stands for openness — an open collaborative ecosystem, shared technical platforms and accessible manufacturing capabilities. VAN represents transport capacity, referring to mobile cargo spaces, logistics units and intelligent carriers. The brand mission is To simplify logistics, enhance transport safety and build greener cities.

Four L4-level autonomous logistics vehicles tailored for diverse scenarios will be released at the launch event, with cargo volumes ranging from 2 cubic meters to 60 cubic meters. The lineup covers last-mile delivery, urban logistics and industrial park transportation. Co-developed with leading intelligent driving enterprises, all four models feature systematic upgrades in perception performance, safety redundancy and vehicle-road-cloud collaboration.

New Growth Driver for Dongfeng’s Business

In Q1 2026, Dongfeng’s new energy vehicle sales rose 80.3% year-on-year, and overseas exports increased by 55%. All series of Dongfeng light commercial vehicles maintained robust growth momentum.

The launch of OpenVAN injects powerful new momentum into the company’s performance, raising market expectations for its development in the initial year of the 15th Five-Year Plan. Titled Open Innovation, Intelligent Driving for the Future, the event demonstrates Dongfeng’s strategic layout in smart logistics and firm confidence in long-term growth.

OpenVAN also serves as a key complement to Dongfeng’s brand matrix. The existing portfolio includes Dolica (light trucks), Qiankun (premium light trucks), Tuyi (mini trucks) and Furuitong (vans), covering both conventional and new energy powertrains. With OpenVAN onboard, Dongfeng now boasts a comprehensive product layout integrating conventional energy, new energy and autonomous driving.

Industry analysts comment that the launch is a strategic move to embrace the autonomous driving trend, and fully reflects Dongfeng’s confidence in its manufacturing strength and industrial chain integration capabilities.

The launch ceremony will be held in Xiangyang, the birthplace of Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. The city is home to nationally leading intelligent connected vehicle test roads and a pioneer zone for vehicle-road-cloud integration.
